Senators 5, Blue Jackets 2: Clarke MacArthur scored twice and added an assist as host Ottawa used a third-period outburst to upend Columbus.

Captain Erik Karlsson recorded a goal and an assist while Zack Smith and Alex Chiasson also tallied for the Senators, who used three goals in a 7:27 span of the third to pull away. Kyle Turris added a pair of assists while Robin Lehner posted a sensational 36-save performance.

Defenseman David Savard and Cam Atkinson tallied for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped three in a row. Curtis McElhinney stopped 29 shots in his first start of the season as Columbus placed Sergei Bobrovsky on injured reserve earlier in the day with a fractured finger.

Savard opened the scoring in the dying seconds of a power play, skating in uncontested and slapping a shot past Lehner from the left faceoff circle at 5:19 of the first period. MacArthur evened things with a man advantage just over a minute later, redirecting Karlsson's point shot past McElhinney's left pad.

Smith's deflection of defenseman Cody Ceci's shot eluded McElhinney at 1:44 of the middle session, but Atkinson drew the Blue Jackets even with 1:03 remaining in the period with a one-timer. Karlsson put the Senators in front early in the third, jumping into the rush and wristing a pass by Turris from the slot past McElhinney, and Chiasson put away the game near the midway point of the period with a power-play goal.

GAME NOTEBOOK: MacArthur completed his first multi-goal performance since Dec. 9 with a wrist shot past McElhinney just 62 seconds after Chiasson's tally. ... The Senators were down to four defensemen for the majority of the third period after Eric Gryba picked up a match penalty and game misconduct for hitting Blue Jackets C Artem Anisimov, and Mark Borowiecki left after being hit from behind by Columbus RW Corey Tropp. ... The Senators have given up 46 shots in the second period of their last three games.
