Blackhawks 6, Sabres 2: Buffalo native Patrick Kane scored the tiebreaking tally to ignite a four-goal third period as Chicago won its home opener for the fourth straight season.

Andrew Shaw matched Kane with a goal and an assist, Marian Hossa netted a short-handed tally and defenseman Duncan Keith, Patrick Sharp and Daniel Carcillo also scored to lift the Blackhawks to their sixth consecutive win over Buffalo. Brandon Saad collected three assists and captain Jonathan Toews added a pair to back Corey Crawford, who turned aside 21 shots to improve to 5-0-0 lifetime against the Sabres.

Zemgus Girgensons scored for the second time in as many games and Tyler Ennis added a short-handed goal for Buffalo, which hasn't won in Chicago since January 2007. A beleaguered Jhonas Enroth made 41 shots for the Sabres, including 15 in the final 20 minutes.

The Blackhawks appeared on their way to a quick knockout as Shaw tipped in a shot by defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson 59 seconds into the contest and Keith doubled the lead less than two minutes later. Buffalo cut the deficit in half at 7:17, when Girgensons buried a rebound, before Ennis knotted it on a breakaway with 1:20 left in the period.

Crawford denied Nicolas Deslauriers on a breakaway in the second and Chicago took control from there, going ahead at 5:58 of the third as Shaw fed a backhand pass to a cutting Kane, who swatted it past Enroth. Hossa doubled the lead midway through the period, snapping a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle into the far corner of the net before Sharp buried a straight-on slap shot from just inside the blue line.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hossa registered his 30th career short-handed tally, the most among active players. ... Girgensons also scored in the season opener last year but then went 27 games before notching his second goal. ... Kane has four goals and two assists in six contests against Buffalo, including one tally in both of Chicago's 2-1 victories last season.
