Canadiens 4, Flyers 3 (SO): PA Parenteau scored the lone goal of the shootout in the fourth round as visiting Montreal rallied from a three-goal, third-period deficit to stun Philadelphia.
Defenseman Andrei Markov recorded a goal and two assists while Tomas Plekanec scored and set up Alex Galchenyuk's tying tally as the Canadiens started 3-0-0 for the first time since the 2005-06 season. Carey Price made 29 saves to help Montreal ended a string of seven straight losses in Philadelphia.
Wayne Simmonds scored twice and Michael Raffl added a goal for the Flyers, who are winless through three games (0-2-1) for the third consecutive season. Ray Emery stopped 35 shots in his first start of the season but couldn't hold off the Canadiens, who poured 19 shots on net in the third period.
Markov ignited Montreal's comeback with a blast through a screen at 7:05 of the third period before Plekanec cut the deficit to 3-2 two minutes later, converting a rebound from the left side of the net. The Canadiens finally pulled even when Galchenyuk deflected Plekanec's one-timer from the right faceoff circle past Emery.
The Flyers scored twice in an 18-second span early in the first period, with Raffl slipping a backhander past Price from the doorstep at 3:39 before Simmonds skated in and beat Price to the glove side with a wrister from the left circle. Philadelphia extended the lead to 3-0 in the opening minute of the second period, when Simmonds swept a rebound into an open net.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Emery denied Galchenyuk on a breakaway with a superb glove save on a backhand attempt 1 1/2 minutes into overtime. ... Plekanec continued his sizzling start with his fourth goal, three of them coming in the third period. ... Flyers D Braydon Coburn (lower body) is scheduled to be examined by a specialist Monday and could be back in the lineup by next weekend.
