Predators 3, Senators 2: Captain Shea Weber scored the go-ahead goal with just over 11 minutes to play in the third period to lift host Nashville in the season opener for both teams.

Craig Smith and Eric Nystrom also scored third-period goals as the Predators erased a 1-0 deficit with three tallies in just under nine minutes. Filip Forsberg and Paul Gaustad collected two assists apiece while Pekka Rinne made 18 saves in Peter Laviolette's coaching debut with Nashville.

Kyle Turris and Alex Chiasson tallied for Ottawa, which was outshot 37-20 and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Craig Anderson carried a shutout into the final 20 minutes and finished with 34 saves in the loss.

Following a scoreless first period, the Senators needed only 75 seconds to snap the deadlock in the middle session, when Turris led a rush and snapped a straight-on laser from 35 feet that caromed off the post and in. Nashville drew even on the power play 96 seconds into the third period behind some strong work by Forsberg, who powered to the net while fending off a defender before sliding a pass across the crease that Smith swatted into an open net.

Weber put the Predators ahead to stay, sweeping in from the left side and beating Anderson with a backhanded wraparound at 8:53 before Gaustad forced a turnover and set up Nystrom for an easy conversion from in close with 9:40 to play. Ottawa cut the deficit to 3-2 on the power play 3 1/2 minutes later as Chiasson redirected defenseman Cody Ceci's shot past Rinne.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Predators LW James Neal, the team's prize offseason acquisition, failed to score but registered a game-high seven shots in his debut with Nashville. ... Senators C David Legwand, who played his entire career in Nashville until being traded last season and was the franchise's first-ever draft pick, was honored in a video tribute during the first timeout. ... Predators C Olli Jokinen, also acquired in the offseason to bolster the offense, was second to Neal with six shots.
