Islanders 3, Devils 2 (SO): Ryan Strome scored in regulation and netted the final tally in the third round of the shootout as visiting New York handed New Jersey its NHL-record 17th consecutive loss in the bonus format.

Making perhaps his final start for the Devils, Martin Brodeur (28 saves) made a stop with his blocker on Brock Nelson's breakaway bid early in overtime. After both teams converted in the first round, Josh Bailey skated in before coming to a near halt, spinning and sending a backhander past Brodeur. Jaromir Jagr lost control of the puck on his attempt and Strome repeated Bailey's tactics to drop New Jersey to 0-13 in the shootout this season.

Anders Lee also tallied in regulation for the Islanders, who have won four in a row in the Garden State for the first time since a seven-game run from Oct. 28, 1982-March 13, 1984. Frans Nielsen notched two assists and Anders Nilsson turned aside 25 shots in the win.

Ryan Carter scored his career-high seventh goal and Patrik Elias also tallied for the Devils, who lost in a shootout for the fifth time in the last nine contests.

Lee converted a 2-on-1 rush midway through the first period to open the scoring, but Carter redirected Steve Bernier's centering feed 59 seconds later to even it up. Elias' wrist shot from the high slot with nine seconds left in the session gave New Jersey a 2-1 lead, but Strome forged a tie 19 seconds into the third with a wrist shot from the inner edge of the right faceoff circle.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jagr notched his 1,048th career assist on Elias' goal, moving him within one of Hall-of-Famer Gordie Howe for eighth place on the all-time list. ... New York RW Justin Johnson, 32, registered three hits in his NHL debut. ... Bernier's assist on Carter's goal was his first point in 15 games. ... The Devils wrap up their season at home against Boston on Sunday, but coach Peter DeBoer would not commit to naming a starting goaltender. ... Glenn "Chico" Resch announced during the first intermission that he is retiring as the Devils' television analyst on MSG Network after 18 seasons.
