Penguins 3, Avalanche 2 (SO): Jussi Jokinen scored the lone goal of the shootout in the second round and short-handed Pittsburgh snapped host Colorado's six-game winning streak despite blowing a two-goal lead in the third period.

Brandon Sutter scored a pair of goals in the finale of a three-game road trip for the Penguins, who were without four injured players - including captain and NHL-leading scorer Sidney Crosby. Marc-Andre Fleury made 39 saves and was perfect in the bonus format as Pittsburgh beat the Avalanche for the fifth time in six meetings.

Ryan O'Reilly and Patrick Bordeleau scored third-period goals for the Avalanche, who had their lead over Chicago for second place in the Central Division cut to two points. Semyon Varlamov turned aside 30 shots in suffering his first loss in his last seven outings (6-0-1).

Despite the absence of their top three point producers, the Penguins withstood a 15-shot barrage in the opening 20 minutes before Sutter broke the scoreless deadlock at 3:46 of the second, skating from his own blue and firing a shot from the right faceoff circle into the far corner of the net. Sutter doubled the lead just past the seven-minute mark with a slick redirect of Jokinen's pass from along the right-wing boards.

Trailing 2-0 entering the third period, Colorado got the quick goal it needed when Jamie McGinn spun behind the net and slid a pass that O'Reilly knocked in from the doorstep 18 seconds into the session. Shortly after Sutter just missed completing a hat trick, the Avalanche got the equalizer as Bordeleau tipped home defenseman Tyson Barrie's blast from the point with 3:13 left in regulation.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Sutter halted a 10-game goalless drought and recorded multiple tallies for the first time since April 17, 2013. ... Avalanche C Paul Stastny had his six-game point streak halted in Colorado's last home game of the regular season. ... Along with Crosby (upper body), D Brooks Orpik (lower body), D Olli Maatta (upper body) and LW Chris Kunitz (lower body) all sat out, although Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said none of the injuries are considered long-term.
