James Reimer made 39 saves to lead the host San Jose Sharks to a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Sunday night.
Scott Reedy and Jonah Gadjovich both scored their first career NHL goals and Ryan Dzingel also scored for San Jose, which won for just the second time in its last 10 games. Jasper Weatherby added two assists.
Reimer made his 12th consecutive start for the Sharks, who closed to within seven points of Dallas for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
Morgan Geekie scored and Philipp Grubauer finished with 21 saves for Seattle, which lost its seventh consecutive game.
San Jose, playing its fifth game in eight days, started slowly and was being outshot 16-3 before Dzingel, claimed off waivers from Toronto on Feb. 20, scored his first goal as a Shark, taking a pass from Logan Couture in the slot and then snapping a quick wrist shot through Grubauer's pads for his fifth goal of the season.
But Seattle answered quickly, needing just nine seconds to tie it, 1-1. Ryan Donato knocked the puck away from defenseman Nicolas Meloche in the Sharks zone to Morgan Geekie, who then drove in on the left wing and fired a backhand shot over Reimer for his fourth goal of the season.
The Kraken appeared to take the lead early in the second period when Calle Jarnkrok fired a shot past Reimer. But San Jose challenged for goalie interference and it was ruled that Marcus Johansson had hit Reimer in the crease just before the shot went in the net.
The Sharks then took a 2-1 lead at the 7:15 mark in the period on Reedy's first career NHL goal. Weatherby won a faceoff in the left circle that Reedy picked up and then quickly fired a wrist shot past a Gadjovich screen and Grubauer's blocker side.
Gadjovich made it 3-1 with his first NHL goal at the 14:37 mark of the third period when Weatherby's deflection of a Brent Burns shot caromed off Grubauer's pads and then off of Gadjovich's skate and into the net.
