Blues 4, Jets 3 (SO): T.J. Oshie and Vladimir Tarasenko scored in the shootout as host St. Louis improved to 6-0-1 in its last seven matchups with Winnipeg.
Brenden Morrow and Derek Roy each recorded a goal and an assist while Jaden Schwartz also scored in regulation to help give the Blues their sixth win in eight games (6-1-1) entering the Olympic break. Brian Elliott made 28 saves before denying both of the shots he faced in the bonus format for St. Louis, which moved into a tie with Chicago atop the Central Division with three games in hand.
Mark Scheifele scored a pair of goals and Dustin Byfuglien netted the tying tally with 6:17 left in regulation for the Jets, who fell to 9-3-1 under new coach Paul Maurice. Al Montoya turned aside 23 shots but was beaten in the second round of the shootout by Oshie, who is 7-for-10 in that format this season.
Schwartz scored for the third time in four games 34 seconds into the third period, backhanding in the rebound of defenseman Barret Jackman's shot off the faceoff, but the Jets tied it just over 13 minutes later on Byfuglien's point blast through a maze - their first power-play tally in eight games. Roy snapped a 24-game goalless drought with 2:22 left in the first period, but Scheifele answered midway through the second by deking Elliott before tucking a backhander past him to cap his second two-goal performance of the season.
Tarasenko set up the opening goal by leaving a drop pass for Morrow, who snapped a shot past Montoya from the right faceoff dot at 7:39 of the first period. Scheifele leveled it just under five minutes later, burying a wraparound feed from Devin Setoguchi past a helpless Elliott.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Jackman's assist came in his 700th career game with the Blues, who failed on eight power-play chances to extend their drought to 0-for-20. ... Jets RW Blake Wheeler assisted on Scheifele's second goal to give him 14 points in his last 13 games. ... St. Louis' Jordan Leopold exited in the first period with a lower-body injury while fellow D Alex Pietrangelo extended his point streak to four games with an assist. ... Blues coach Ken Hitchcock picked up his 111th win with St. Louis, moving past Scotty Bowman and into fourth place on the franchise list.
