Niederreiter's wrist shot between the legs of defenseman Roman Josi beat Carter Hutton to the blocker side for his 11th of the season. Zach Parise recorded his fourth goal in five games and blue-liner Jonas Brodin scored for the first time in 18 contests as Minnesota moved seven points clear for a wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Craig Smith recorded his fourth multi-goal performance of the season for Nashville, which remained four points behind Vancouver for the final wild-card position in the West. Hutton made 33 saves, including 15 in the third period and six during a power play in the final three minutes.

After Brodin scored at 4:05 of the first period, Nashville registered its first goal against Minnesota in 174:36 when Smith tapped in the rebound of his own shot from the blue line as Darcy Kuemper couldn't locate the puck in the crease. Like Brodin, Parise beat Hutton short side from the right faceoff circle during a power play at 13:27 of the session to make it 2-1.

Smith's team-leading 18th goal came when he deflected defenseman Victor Bartley's shot off the crossbar and past Kuemper to make it 2-2 at 7:40 of the second period. Kuemper made 16 saves to improve to 8-3-2 as the Wild defeated the Predators for the third consecutive time while dropping them to 3-10 in overtime this season.
