Jets 2, Hurricanes 1: Chris Thorburn scored the go-ahead goal with 1:03 remaining in the third period as visiting Winnipeg continued its hot streak.
Thorburn gathered defenseman Jacob Trouba's pass from point-blank range and whistled a wrist shot past Carolina netminder Anton Khudobin as the Jets improved to 9-2-0 under new coach Paul Maurice. Captain Andrew Ladd added a second-period goal while Ondrej Pavelec turned aside 28 shots.
Riley Nash had the lone goal and Khudobin made 25 saves for the Hurricanes, who fell for just the second time in seven games.
With the goaltenders stealing the show through the opening 32 minutes, Winnipeg finally opened the scoring with 7:03 remaining in the middle frame. After Michael Frolik's initial shot was stopped, Ladd pounced on the rebound in the low slot and scooped a backhand shot past a diving Khudobin.
Nash drew Carolina even 2:42 into the third, gathering a loose puck to the right of Pavelec and wristing a shot past him on the blocker side. Pavelec preserved the draw with back-to-back stops on Drayson Bowman and Jordan Staal inside the final 5:05, setting the stage for Thorburn's heroics.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Carolina finished 0-for-3 with the man advantage, while Winnipeg didn't have a single power-play opportunity. ... Khudobin has made 20 consecutive starts in goal for the Hurricanes. ... Ladd has two goals and five assists over his last six games.
