Oilers 4, Avalanche 1: Ales Hemsky, Jordan Eberle and captain Shawn Horcoff scored power-play goals as host Edmonton seized its first lead of the season and breezed past Colorado.
Top overall pick Nail Yakupov added an empty-net goal with the man advantage and Devan Dubnyk turned aside 37 shots for the Oilers, who went 4-for-6 on the power play to improve to 10-for-28 on the season.
PA Parenteau ended Dubnyk's bid for his fifth career shutout with his third goal in four games at 7:43 of the third period. Semyon Varlamov finished with 23 saves for the Avalanche, who have yielded seven power-play goals in their last two contests.
After being outscored 9-2 in the opening period in its first four games, Edmonton dominated the first 20 minutes Monday and enjoyed a 14-3 edge in shots. Hemsky cashed in by cleaning up the rebound of Sam Gagner's shot from the point with 4:37 remaining in the session and Eberle doubled the advantage 2:42 later by unleashing a blistering shot from the left faceoff circle.
Horcoff was credited with Edmonton's third goal midway through the second after Taylor Hall's tip-in attempt caromed off his skate and into the net.
