Jaroslav Halak recorded his third shutout in four starts and defenseman Alex Pietrangelo scored with just over five minutes remaining in the third period as the St. Louis Blues skated to a 1-0 home triumph over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.
With their second straight 1-0 victory, the Blues moved into a tie with the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers with 62 points - one behind Central Division rival Detroit's league-best total.
St. Louis has secured a point in 14 straight home games (12-0-2) and is 20-3-3 at Scottrade Center this season. The Blues are now 22-5-6 under Ken Hitchcock's watch.
Pietrangelo provided the lone offense with 5:14 remaining in the third period. After a pair of deflections were denied, Pietrangelo scored on a wraparound to extend his career-high point streak to eight games with his eighth goal of the season.
Halak stopped 15 shots to make the modest offense stand up and record his fourth shutout of the season and 20th career. With the triumph, the 26-year-old netminder improved to 10-0-3 since Nov. 29.
Nikolai Khabibulin finished with 38 saves, but Edmonton fell to 0-6-1 in its last seven games overall and 1-12-0 in its last 13 road contests.
