SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Florida Panthers' shootout prowess continues to help them move up the standings.

Centers Brandon Pirri and Aleksander Barkov both scored in the shootout as the Panthers won their fifth consecutive game, closing out the final game before the holiday break with a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators at BB&T Center on Tuesday.

The clubs played a manic overtime period with each team getting great scoring chances. Right winger Jaromir Jagr and left winger Jussi Jokinen both had breakaways to win it, but Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson denied them.

Pirri skated in slowly as he always does and beat Anderson with the shootout's first shot over the goalie's blocker.

Florida goaltender Roberto Luongo, who stopped 15 shots, then stuffed centers Mika Zibanejad and Kyle Turris in the shootout.

Barkov, whose highlight-reel move was the deciding goal in the win over Vancouver on Sunday, then added another slick moment, beating Anderson low on the stick side.

The win gave Florida (19-12-4) 11 wins in their last 14 games.

"They're looking good," Florida coach Gerard Gallant said of the shootout efforts of Pirri and Barkov, who helped lift the Panthers to 5-1 in shootouts. "Last year was a tough year for the shootout; this year our guys are real confident. It's nice to see.

"We had a real good game."

Added Luongo: "I?think guys are confident in themselves and the way we're playing as a team. You could see that as a group we believe that we can win every game.

"That's the main thing with a winning team, going into every game believing you can win."

Center Corban Knight scored for Florida. Jagr and Quinton Howden had assists.

Playing in just his fifth game after being called up by Florida on Dec. 14, the 25-year-old Knight took a pass from Howden and skated in on Anderson, then whistled a wrist shot past the former Florida goalie on the blocker side.

The goal was the first with the Panthers, who drafted him in the fifth round of the 2009 draft. However, the club eventually traded him for a fourth-round pick to Calgary, where he scored one goal in seven games with the Flames.

Florida re-acquired him on Jan. 9, 2015, in exchange for center Drew Shore.

Jagr kept the play alive by controlling the puck along the Florida boards and allowing Knight and Howden to hop over the boards for a line change.

Jagr lost four teeth in the first period after being hit with a stick in the mouth by right winger Alex Chiasson.

Jagr, Florida's leading scorer entering the game with 24 points, was injured midway through the first period, but the right winger missed less than four minutes of game time.

Ottawa right winger Mark Stone scored a power-play goal while Anderson made 39 saves for Ottawa (17-12-6).

"I've watched Pirri do that, and he was just a little bit quicker than I was there," said Anderson, who has a home near the arena. "Barkov's pretty sneaky. I've seen the summertime skates, and these guys can play. They're on the top line for a reason here."

Stone broke an eight-game streak without a goal when he tipped in defenseman Erik Karlsson's long shot. It was his first goal since Dec. 5 against the New York Islanders.
