Canadiens 2, Bruins 1 (SO): Alex Galchenyuk scored the lone goal in the fourth round of the shootout as visiting Montreal snapped Boston's 12-game winning streak.

Patrice Bergeron, Jarome Iginla and Brad Marchand failed in their bids to beat Peter Budaj (28 saves) between the pads in the bonus format and David Krejci's wrist shot was also turned aside. Galchenyuk, who was 0-for-5 on shootout attempts this season, skated in and beat Tuukka Rask (21 saves) over the right pad to end the contest.

Defenseman Alexei Emelin scored a power-play goal for the Canadiens, who have won five of six overall and four straight road contests versus Boston. Montreal pulled even with Tampa Bay for second place in the Atlantic Division after the Lightning dropped a 4-3 shootout decision to Ottawa.

Bergeron tallied with the man advantage for the Bruins, who fell two wins shy of matching their franchise record set in 1929-30. Boston moved one point ahead of St. Louis in the race for the Presidents' Trophy despite suffering its first loss since a 4-2 setback to Washington on March 1.

Emelin drew first blood at 6:39 of the opening period as his shot from the point deflected off the stick of Chris Kelly and into the net. The slim advantage stood up until Boston scored on its sixth power-play opportunity as defenseman Dougie Hamilton's wrist shot from the point caromed off Bergeron and into the net with 5:26 left in the third.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Iginla was named the NHL's Third Star of the Week earlier in the day. ... Montreal LW Travis Moen and RW Dale Weise suffered undisclosed injuries in the first period and did not return. ... Rask fell to 0-5-3 at home versus Montreal. ...
