Avalanche 4, Coyotes 2: Captain Gabriel Landeskog recorded a power-play goal and two assists in the third period as host Colorado skated past Phoenix.

Paul Stastny scored a goal and set up another while PA Parenteau and defenseman Nate Guenin also tallied for the Avalanche, who are 1-1-0 on their three-game homestand. Rookie Nathan MacKinnon notched a pair of assists and Semyon Varlamov turned aside 40 shots.

Captain Shane Doan netted a pair of power-play tallies for the Coyotes, who went winless on their three-game road trip (0-2-1). Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson set up both goals and Thomas Greiss made 29 saves as Phoenix fell to 1-5-4 in its last 10 away from home.

Phoenix opened the scoring with 7:13 remaining in the first period, when Doan deposited a backhander past Varlamov from alone on the doorstep during a man advantage. Colorado answered with a power-play goal of its own less than three minutes later as Parenteau beat Greiss with a one-timer from above the slot.

Guenin put the Avalanche ahead 48 seconds into the third with a shot from high in the right faceoff circle and Stastny converted a pass from Landeskog at 6:12 for a 3-1 lead. Doan's deflection with 6:02 remaining pulled the Coyotes within one, but Landeskog restored the two-goal advantage by beating Greiss to the glove side from the right circle with 3:11 to play for his 50th career tally.
