Devils 2, Oilers 1 (OT): Defenseman Jon Merrill scored his first NHL goal at 2:34 of overtime to lift visiting New Jersey.

Merrill beat Ilya Bryzgalov with a blast from a left circle to cap the Devils' fourth consecutive overtime contest. Andrei Loktionov scored in regulation and Cory Schneider made 19 saves as New Jersey improved to 2-2-2 in its last six.

Taylor Hall notched the lone tally for Edmonton, which lost for only the second time in seven games entering the Olympic break. Bryzgalov turned aside 22 shots and had his modest two-start win streak halted.

Loktionov ended a 15-game goalless drought at 11:01 of the first period, accepting a pass from captain Bryce Salvador at the bottom of the right circle before beating a sprawling Bryzgalov. It was Salvador's first assist since Oct. 19.

The lead was short-lived as Hall answered 29 seconds later with his 20th goal, finishing off a 2-on-1 with Nail Yakupov by burying a crossing feed from the bottom of the left circle.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Devils RW Jaromir Jagr notched the 1,039th assist of his career on Loktionov's goal, putting him one behind Hall-of-Famer Marcel Dionne for ninth place on the all-time list. ... Taylor reached 20 goals for the third time in four seasons and has 26 points in his last 22 games. ... Loktionov, who was elevated to the top line in Thursday's practice, scored for the first time since Dec. 4.
