COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The windy, rainy weather Saturday night in central Texas was perfect for an evening of hard-knocks defense and old-school running.

Auburn, trying to stay relevant in the SEC, had the perfect plan in its game against No. 19 Texas A&M to deal with the conditions.

Unfortunately for the Aggies, both their offense and defense struggled mightily, leading to the Tigers' 26-10 upset in front of 104,625 fans at Kyle Field.

Auburn forced three turnovers and relied on the running of Jovon Robinson and Daniel Carlson's four field goals.

"Tonight was a true team win," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "I thought we played well in all three phases of the game."

Auburn ran on 52 of its 69 offensive plays. The Tigers threw just two passes in the fourth quarter.

The leading rusher was Jovon Robinson, who gained 159 yards on 27 carries with a touchdown in only his second start of the season.

Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson, who was making his first start in six games, didn't need to throw much to keep drives alive. Johnson completed 13 of 17 passes for 132 yards with a touchdown to Marcus Davis for Auburn's first score of the game.

Johnson said his game improved because he was "having fun."

"It feels good to have a a victory and that's all that really matters," Johnson said. "I'm all about winning. I'm a team player. I just feel good about what we have as a team."

The Tigers improved to 5-4 overall. It was just their second win in SEC play. The Aggies fell to 6-3 and 3-3.

The lone offensive bright spot for A&M was tailback Tra Carson, who gained 109 yards on 21 carries.

The A&M offense struggled mightily. Starting quarterback Kyler Murray was intercepted three times and suffered an injury in the third quarter.

"We moved the ball well early in the game," A&M coach Kevin Sumlin said. "But turnovers in the end zone hurt us. When you move the ball, but you don't get points and you also give the other team the football, that's not good."

Murray was injured on a first-and-goal run late in the third quarter when he darted right but was hit hard by Blake Countess. Murray was examined on the sideline and then taken to the locker room. He was limited to 105 yards passing and 36 rushing.

Sumlin provided few details on what happened to Murray, who was examined on the sideline.

"If they don't bring him back out (from the locker room), he's not available to play," Sumlin said. "We'll evaluate where he is this weekend and see where he is on Monday."

A&M was able to limit the damage from Murray's interceptions, two of which came deep in Auburn territory, and the overall ineffectiveness of its offense. The Aggies held Auburn to four field goals in the second half.

Auburn took a 14-3 lead at halftime, with the Tigers leaning heavily on its rushing offense.

Robinson rushed 15 times for 107 yards and a touchdown.

A&M opened the scoring when Taylor Bertolet connected on a 50-yard field goal. The long-distance kick came on the Aggies' initial drive.

But after that series, the A&M offense mostly fizzled. Auburn intercepted Murray twice in the first half. The Tigers also held A&M on downs. Murray, who has been so adept running the ball, was held to 25 yards on six carries.

NOTES: Jeremy Johnson got the start for Auburn at quarterback. Johnson opened the season as the first-team quarterback. But he has seen little action in SEC play. Starter Sean Johnson has been hobbled with a knee injury. ... Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M's Heisman Trophy winner in 2012, checked in with his old team. He was introduced in pregame ceremonies. ... Officials initially called A&M WR Ricky Seals-Jones for a targeting on the same play when QB Kyler Murray was injured. The call was overturned. But Auburn CB Jeremiah Dinson was injured when Seals-Jones' block caught him by surprise. He was taken off the field on a cart, but no information was provided on his injury.

When Murray was injured, A&M sent in junior college transfer Jake Hubenak. Kyle Allen, who started the first seven games of the season, was relegated to third team. Sumlin said Hubenak had the better week of practice.
