Junior-college transfer Ke'anu Kinner rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns for the Jayhawks, who were unable to move into field goal range on their final possession.

Kansas trailed by 24 points early in the second quarter and began to get back into the game on a 19-yard run by senior receiver Tre' Parmalee.

Kinner scored on touchdown runs of three and 26 yards in the first 5:48 of the third quarter as the Jayhawks pulled to with 31-28 and the Jayhawks again moved with three when Cozart threw a 10-yard scoring pass to sophomore tight end Kent Taylor with 2:18 remaining.

South Dakota State scored 10 points in the first seven minutes on senior kicker Jay Carlson's 28-yard field goal and sophomore running back Brady Mengarelli's 25-yard run.

Jayhawks redshirt freshman Ryan Schadler answered with a 91-yard kickoff return with 7:57 left in the quarter before Lujan and Wieneke teamed up on a 29-yard scoring play to make it 17-3 with 4:33 left in the stanza.

Wieneke, who notched his eight career 100-yard outing, was on the receiving end of Lujan's 16-yard scoring aerial 1:21 into the second quarter and the Jackrabbits got the ball back at the Kansas 29-yard line when junior linebacker Jesse Bobbitt recovered Cozart's fumble.

Two plays later, Mengarelli caught a 29-yard scoring pass from Lujan to make it 31-7 with 12:38 left in the first half.
