Jaxon Shipley caught six passes for 81 yards and also returned a punt 41 yards to set up the Longhorns' first touchdown and John Harris finished with six catches for a game-high 89 yards and a touchdown.

Texas built a 13-0 halftime lead, scoring touchdowns on drives that covered 18 and 13 yards. Swoopes connected with tight end M.J. McFarland for a 1-yard touchdown pass for the first score just four plays after Shipley's 41-yard punt return and scored the second on a 7-yard run three plays after Thomas' first interception which put the ball at the Kansas 13 after the Jayhawks were flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the end of his 24-yard return.

Kansas had a chance to cut into the lead when it drove to the Texas 5-yard line, but Thomas deflected a pass for Nigel King in the end zone on 4th-and-goal. Nick Ross, who earlier had missed a PAT and a 48-yard field goal, nailed a 42-yarder early in the fourth quarter to up the lead to 16-0 and Swoopes added a 16-yard touchdown pass to Harris with 3:04 remaining to conclude the scoring.
