Maryland 27, Virginia 26: Caleb Rowe threw for a career-high 332 yards and the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter and the Terrapins survived a late missed field-goal attempt to hang on and defeat the Cavaliers at home for the first time since 2005.

Brandon Ross accounted for 169 yards (88 rushing, 81 receiving) and a pair of touchdowns on the ground for Maryland (5-1, 1-1 ACC), which surpassed its win total from a season ago. Deon Long added four catches for 98 yards and Stefon Diggs chipped in six receptions for 96 yards.

David Watford went 27-for-44 for 263 yards and a touchdown for Virginia (2-4, 0-2), which dropped its third straight game. Kevin Parks had a career-high 28 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown.

After Virginia converted a pair of field goals on its first two drives, Ross scored from a yard out near the end of the opening quarter and stretched Maryland’s lead to eight on a 7-yard run with 6:40 remaining in the half. Watford capped the ensuing drive with a 4-yard flip to Jake McGee and Alec Vozenilek staked Virginia to 16-14 lead at halftime with his third field goal.

A pair of third-quarter field goals moved Maryland in front, but Parks’ 6-yard run and Vozenilek’s fourth field goal put the Cavaliers ahead 26-20 with 7:11 left. However, Long’s leaping 47-yard grab over two defenders on third-and-22 put Rowe into position to find Dave Stinebaugh on a diving 12-yard catch and Vozenilek pushed the 42-yard potential game-winning field goal wide right with 10 seconds remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Maryland had dropped 15 of its previous 21 meetings with the Cavaliers. … Virginia, which entered Saturday with the sixth-worst turnover margin in FBS, forced three takeaways and did not commit a turnover. … The Terrapins, who recorded 18 sacks over their first five games - tied for fourth-best in FBS - did not tally one Saturday.
