Rutgers 28, Eastern Michigan 10: Paul James rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns as the Scarlet Knights knocked off the visiting Eagles.

James scored on runs of 13, 55 and 52 yards while making his second career start. Quron Pratt also found the end zone by returning a kickoff 99 yards for a score for Rutgers (2-1).

Tyler Benz was 24-of-40 passing for 335 yards and a touchdown for Eastern Michigan (1-2), which trailed 14-10 at halftime before being blanked in the second.

James gave the Scarlet Knights an 11-point lead when he broke loose on a 55-yard run with 11:03 left in the third quarter. He put the game away with a 52-yard scamper down the right sideline with 7:04 remaining in the contest.

Rutgers struck first on James’ 13-yard run in the opening quarter and increased the lead to 14-3 on Pratt’s return. Benz tossed a 43-yard scoring pass to Ryan Brumfield midway through the second quarter.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rutgers starting QB Gary Nova left in the first half with an undisclosed injury and Chas Dodd went 4-for-9 for 45 yards in his place. … Eastern Michigan had just 38 rushing yards on 40 attempts. … James has topped 100 rushing yards in all three games and has 493 yards.
