Virginia Tech 17, Virginia 14: Cody Journell kicked a 29-yard field goal as time expired to push the Hokies past the Cavaliers for the ninth straight time.

Virginia Tech (6-6) is now bowl-eligible for the 20th straight season despite having its hands full against against Commonwealth Cup rival Virginia.

After Journell missed from 42 yards out with 3:43 to play, Antone Exum intercepted a Michael Rocco pass at the Virginia 36 and returned it to the 24-yard-line to set up the game-winning score.

Logan Thomas threw for 129 yards and a touchdown and ran for another for the Hokies, who narrowly avoided overtime for the second straight week. Virginia Tech's postseason streak is the third-longest in the nation, behind Florida State (30) and Florida (21).

Rocco finished with 177 yards and a score on 14-of-29 passing for the Cavaliers (4-8). Tim Smith had four catches for 79 yards and a touchdown.
