David Ruffer kicked three field goals and Notre Dame held off a late Boston College rally for a 16-14 victory, the eighth win in the last nine games for the Fighting Irish.

The Eagles (3-8) got within two on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Chase Rettig to Bobby Swigert with 1:57 remaining, and had a final opportunity to steal the win when it got the ball back with eight seconds left. Rettig completed a pass to Swigert on the game's final play, but despite several lateral attempts Boston College was unable to pull off a miracle.

Jonas Gray, who exited in the second half with an apparent knee injury, put the Fighting Irish (8-3) on top for good with a 26-yard touchdown run on the game's opening drive. It was the only time Notre Dame reached the end zone — but the only time it needed to. Ruffer kicked field goals of 40, 41 and 27 yards to help the home team build a 16-7 advantage early in the fourth quarter.

Cierre Wood paced the Notre Dame offense with 94 yards on 26 carries, while Michael Floyd caught 10 passes for 92 yards. The Fighting Irish outgained the Eagles, 417 to 250.
