Southern Cal took advantage of California’s four first-half turnovers and cruised to a 30-9 win over the Golden Bears on Thursday at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
Southern Cal (5-1, 3-1 Pac-12 South) won its eighth straight game against the Golden Bears while turning in its best defensive effort this season.
Keenan Allen had his fourth straight 100-yard receiving game for California (3-3, 0-3 Pac-12 North), which has been outscored 62-0 in the first half of its last two games against Southern Cal.
Trailing 13-0 midway through the second quarter, California attempted a fake punt that was stopped by Southern Cal and turned into a 7-yard touchdown pass from Matt Barkley to Brandon Carswell.
The Trojans entered the game with just one interception, but they tallied three against California quarterback Zach Maynard, who struggled with his accuracy throughout the game.
Southern Cal sealed the win after converting Maynard’s third interception into Curtis McNeal’s 2-yard touchdown run with 5:14 remaining. Freshman linebacker Dion Bailey had two interceptions for the Trojans.
The Trojans, who lost both running back Marc Tyler and Marquis Lee to shoulder injuries early in the game, held the Golden Bears to just 35 yards rushing.
