Ronnie Hillman rushed for four touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter, as San Diego State beat visiting Washington State 42-24 on Saturday for its first victory over a BCS opponent in 22 years.

Hillman had 32 carries for 191 yards for the Aztecs (3-0), who broke a 22-game losing streak against BCS teams dating back to a 41-13 victory at Kansas in 1999. San Diego State also won for the first time in its last 20 games against teams from the Pac-12.

Washington State (2-1) entered the game with the nation’s top scoring offense (61.5 points per game), but the Cougars struggled after Marshall Lobbestael’s 78-yard touchdown pass to Marquess Wilson gave them a 24-14 lead early in the third quarter. Lobbestael finished 20-for-42 passing for 368 yards and three touchdowns.

Ryan Lindley’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Escobar pulled the Aztecs to within three points late in the third quarter before Hillman took control.

Hillman entered the game as the nation’s second-leading rusher (153 yards per game), and he gave the Aztecs a 35-24 lead when he stepped out of three tackles and outran the Cougars secondary for a 59-yard score with 7:26 remaining.

Lindley, who was 21-of-37 passing for 273 yards, added an insurance touchdown with his 21-yard strike to Escobar with 2:49 left.

San Diego State, which is 3-0 for the first time in 30 years, visits Michigan and former coach Brady Hoke next Saturday.
