The West Virginia Mountaineers did their part and now become the biggest South Florida fans around.

Looking to keep their BCS bowl hopes alive, the Mountaineers got three touchdown from Ryan Clarke and a big game from Tavon Austin in a 35-14 victory over Rutgers in Big East play Saturday.

The Mountaineers (9-3, 5-2) are tied with Pittsburgh atop the Big East standings and hold the tiebreaker after winning their head-to-head matchup. Connecticut will also finish 5-2 in the conference if it knocks off South Florida on Saturday night, and the Huskies would represent the Big East by virtue of wins over both the Mountaineers and Panthers.

If South Florida wins, West Virginia goes to the BCS.

Clarke rushed for only 11 yards on seven carries and had a long run of four yards. But he made the most of his carries, scoring on 1-yard runs in the second and third quarters and a 3-yard run in the fourth.

Austin helped the Mountaineers to a good start with a 19-yard touchdown reception from Geno Smith just under seven minutes into the game. Austin added a 46-yard touchdown run early in the fourth to make it 28-7.

Rutgers (4-8, 1-6) ends a disappointing season on a six-game losing streak. The Scarlet Knights did not win a game after defensive end Eric LaGrand was paralyzed in a win over Army on October 16.
