Ryan Williams scored a pair of touchdowns and Miami gave Virginia Tech a little too much help as the Hokies posted a 31-17 victory in a key Atlantic Coast Conference Clash on Saturday.

Williams rushed for 143 yards and scored a big touchdown in the fourth quarter as 15th-ranked Virginia Tech clinched the ACC Coastal Division championship.

The game was tied 17-17 after three, but the Hokies took control over the final 15 minutes. Williams busted loose for an 84-yard touchdown run with 13:38 to play to give Virginia Tech (9-2, 7-0 ACC) a 24-17 lead.

Miami (7-4, 5-3) harbored hopes of a Coastal Division title but was done in by five turnovers. The Hurricanes lost a pair of fumbles in the first half and Stephen Morris threw three interceptions in the second half. Morris’ first interception pretty much spelled the end for the Hurricanes. The Hokies took over at Hurricanes’ 28 and five plays later Tyrod Taylor ran for an 18-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 31-17.

Taylor completed 7-of-14 passes for 93 yards for Virginia Tech, which has won nine straight since losing its first two games of the season.
