Washington State ended a 16-game losing streak in the Pac-10 with 31-14 upset of Oregon State on Saturday in Corvallis, Ore.

The Cougars (2-9, 1-7 Pac-10) beat Washington in 2008 for their last conference win. On Saturday, they got off to a hot start en route to ending the embarrassing streak.

Washington State led 14-0 at half and extended the lead to 21-0 on Jeff Tuel's 33-yard touchdown pass to Marquess Wilson early in the third quarter.

The Beavers (4-5, 3-3 Pac-10) rallied back behind quarterback Ryan Katz, who connected with Markus Wheaton on an 11-yard scoring pass to make it 24-14 with 10 minutes to play.

But Washington State made some defensive stops down the stretch and got a sealing touchdown run from Chantz Staden that put them up 31-14 with two minutes left.

Katz completed 12-of-21 attempts for 155 yards and two touchdowns for the Beavers, who face a daunting finishing stretch. Oregon State must win two of its final three games against USC, Stanford and Oregon to become bowl eligible.
