In a game of big plays by highly skilled players, Florida turned to its kicker. It’s backup kicker, Chas Henry. And he delivered.

Henry booted a 37-yard field goal in overtime to give the Gators a thrilling 34-31 win over Georgia in a critical SEC battle. Florida (5-3, 3-3) stops its three-game losing streak and controls its own fate in the SEC East. Georgia, which had won its last three games, drops to 4-5, 3-4.

After a valiant comeback to send the game into overtime, Georgia had the ball first. But Florida defensive back Will Hill intercepted freshman quarterback Aaron Murray and nearly returned it for the game-winning touchdown. Florida was unable to get a first down and called on Henry, the punter who is filling in for injured kicker Caleb Sturgis. The senior calmly drilled the ball between the posts to continue Florida’s dominance of Georgia.

Georgia has beaten Florida only three times since 1990 and things weren’t looking good early when Florida rolled out to a 21-7 lead late in the second period. But the Bulldogs countered with two fourth-quarter touchdowns and tied the score at 24-24 on a 29-yard pass from Murray to Orson Charles followed by a two-point conversion run by Murray.

Murray had a career-high 313 yards and 3 touchdowns and Charles, his high school teammate in Florida, set a career best with 109 receiving yards on six catches. Tavarres King also topped 100 yards receiving. Florida freshman quarterback/receiver Trey Burton rushed for 116 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown that gave Florida a 31-24 lead with seven minutes remaining. In his first game back since a suspension, Chris Rainey ran for 78 yards and gave some spark to the Florida offense.
