Jermaine Thomas scored three touchdowns in the first half and the No. 24 Florida State Seminoles rolled to a 45-17 victory over No. 14 Miami Hurricanes on Saturday in a rare blowout in the series.

Chris Thompson had 159 yards on 13 carries and Christian Ponder threw a pair of scores for Florida State (5-1, 3-0 ACC), which won for only the fourth time in the last 12 meetings and improved to 3-0 in the ACC for the first time since 2005.

It was a game atypical of the previous nine meetings, which were all decided by 10 points or less, including last season when the Seminoles came up short in the final seconds.

The game also was unique because it was the first contest in 35 years without legendary former Seminoles head coach Bobby Bowden, who was forced out last season and replaced with his longtime assistant Jimbo Fisher.

Florida State ended any thoughts of another thriller early, as the Seminoles stunned the home crowd by scoring the first 21 points. Thomas had touchdown runs of 1 and 6 yards, as well as a 17-yard touchdown catch in the first half.

Pryor’s 16-yard touchdown run made it 31-7 with 12:33 left in third.

Damien Berry and Jacory Harris each had touchdown runs for Miami (3-2, 1-1), which had its modest two-game winning streak snapped.
