Led by the nation's top rushing attack, Air Force earned a 35-14 victory over the visiting Brigham Young Cougars in both teams' Mountain West Conference opener Saturday.

The Falcons (2-0) snapped a six-game losing streak to the No. 24 Cougars (1-1) in the last currently scheduled meeting in this longtime rivalry. BYU will become a football independent in 2011.

Air Force rushed for 409 yards, led by Asher Clark's 120 on 18 carries. The Falcons rushed for 437 yards in a 65-21 rout of Northwestern State last Saturday.

Touchdown runs by JJ Di Luigi and quarterback Nelson Riley gave the Cougars a 14-7 lead after the first quarter before the Falcons scored 28 unanswered points.

The Cougars earned a 23-17 victory over Washington in their opener, but struggled offensively against Air Force and managed just 88 yards passing.

Mikel Hunter caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Air Force quarterback Tim Jefferson and also ran 33 yards for a score. Jefferson scored on a 5-yard run. Jonathan Warzeka ran for a 46-yard touchdown and Nathan Walker capped the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run.

The Falcons have won 11 consecutive MWC openers. The Cougars had been 5-0 against the Falcons under coach Bronco Mendenhall.
