Javan Felix knocked down four 3-pointers en route to 18 points as the Longhorns jumped out early and cruised past the visiting Mountaineers.

Cameron Ridley added 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting and six rebounds for Texas (20-5, 9-3 Big 12), which pulled within one game of first-place Kansas in the Big 12 standings. Isaiah Taylor scored 14 points while Demarcus Holland contributed 11 points and seven assists as the Longhorns won for the ninth time in 10 games and swept the season series from West Virginia (15-11, 7-6).

Eron Harris scored 21 points to lead the Mountaineers, who dropped to 1-4 in its last five conference road games. Juwan Staten added 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds and Nathan Adrian scored 12 points off the bench.

Felix capped a 17-2 burst with a 3-pointer to give Texas a 28-16 lead with just over six minutes left in the first half. The lead swelled to 40-24 before West Virginia trimmed the gap to 11 points at the break.

Staten’s three-point play left the Mountaineers down 72-62 with 5:22 left but Jonathan Holmes responded with a three-point play and Felix connected from beyond the arc on the next possession as the Longhorns pushed it back out. Martez Walker’s putback capped an 8-1 run and extended the lead to 88-67 with 58 seconds left.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Holmes (knee), who missed the last game, finished with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting and seven rebounds. … Texas shot 57.9 percent from the field to help make up for an 18-of-27 effort from the line. … Felix is 10-of-18 from beyond the arc in the last two games.
