Utah 69, USC 66: Jarred DuBois scored 22 points and the 10th-seeded Utes held on to win the Pac-12 tournament opener in Las Vegas.

Jordan Loveridge had 15 points and nine rebounds and Jason Washburn contributed 10 points for Utah (14-17), which plays second-second California in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Omar Oraby scored a season-high 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for seventh-seeded USC, which played without starting center Dewayne Dedmon who was suspended for violating team rules. J.T. Terrell scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and Eric Wise finished with 12 points and nine rebounds for the Trojans (14-18).

The Utes went up by 13 points with 8:41 left, but then missed seven straight field-goal attempts, allowing USC to cut the deficit to 60-59 on a 3-pointer by Wise with 3:46 remaining.

A 3-pointer by DuBois and a dunk by Washburn put Utah back ahead by five points with 1:57 left and that was enough to hold off USC for good.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Utah, which led the Pac-12 in free-throw shooting at 74.7 percent, made 18-for-21 from the stripe. … The Utes came in allowing an average of 62.9 points, also tops in the conference. … USC senior point guard Jio Fontan, who came in shooting 33.7 percent on the season, made three field goals on a team-high 14 attempts, finishing with six points in his final college game.
