Junior point guard Melo Trimble hit two free throws with 9.4 seconds left as Maryland came back from a 12-point deficit to beat Oklahoma State 71-70 Saturday at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland.

A last-second basket by Cowboys guard Jawun Evans was ruled too late as the Terps beat Oklahoma State in the first meeting between the teams in Maryland.

Trimble finished with a team-high 13 points and added six assists for the Terrapins (8-1). Juniors Damonte Dodd and Jaylen Brantley added 12 points apiece, and Anthony Cowan had 11.

Evans scored 16 points, and redshirt junior swingman Jeffrey Carroll had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Cowboys (6-2). Phil Forte III contributed 14 points.

Trimble hit one of two free throws with 38 seconds left to give Maryland a 69-68 lead. Evans responded with a layup to give the Cowboys a 70-69 lead with 21 seconds to go.

The Cowboys took their biggest lead of the second half when Forte hit two free throws with 12:11 left for a 60-48 advantage. With 10:54 remaining, Carroll left the game while holding his right wrist, but he returned a few minutes later.

Maryland stormed back and cut the deficit to 60-54 on a basket by Brantley with 9:30 left. Dodd made a layup and free throw for Maryland to trim the margin to 60-58 with 7:07 left. Freshman Kevin Huerter then made two free throws as the Terps tied the game at 60 with 6:45 left.

Justin Jackson, another freshman, made one of two free throws as Maryland took a 61-60 lead with 6:28 left to end a 13-0 run.

Dodd made it 68-64 when he scored off an offensive rebound with 2:20 left. Forte tied the game at 68 with two free throws with 1:26 left.

The Terps were coming off their only loss of the season, a 73-59 setback against Pittsburgh at home Tuesday in which Maryland trailed by 25 points early in the second half. Maryland was 19 of 29 from the foul line Saturday while both teams shot 41 percent from the field.

The Cowboys entered the game averaging 98.9 points per contest, the second-best mark in the nation.

Maryland will return to action Wednesday with a home game against nearby Howard. It will be the third of eight straight home games for the Terps, including a game in Baltimore on Dec. 20 against Charlotte.

Oklahoma State is be off until playing at Tulsa on Dec. 10.
