Mike Watkins turned in a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Shep Garner led the Nittany Lions (5-3) with 17 points as Penn State earned its third consecutive win. Lamar Stevens added 10 points for the Nittany Lions, who won a seventh ACC/Big Ten Challenge game in their past 10 tries.

Quinton Stephens finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (4-2). Georgia Tech's Ben Lammers had 12 points and 10 boards, while Josh Okogie added 13 points.

Okogie put the Yellow Jackets ahead for the last time with a 3-pointer that opened the second half and gave Georgia Tech a 31-30 lead.

The Nittany Lions soon jumped back on top and led for almost all of the second half. Okogie pulled Georgia Tech even with another 3-pointer that made it 39-39 with 13:00 left, and the Yellow Jackets got within two with 2:07 to play.

Penn State finished on a 10-5 run that was sparked by a Josh Reaves 3-pointer and capped by a pair of free throws from Garner.

The teams traded shots in the first half. They spent just over six minutes tied and swapped the lead seven times.

The Yellow Jackets opted to work the ball inside, where Justin Moore and Stephens took turns hitting midrange baskets. Lammers slammed home a dunk with 3:35 to play to give Georgia Tech its biggest lead, 28-23.

Meanwhile, Penn State opted to try for 3-pointers. Penn State made just two of 10 in the first half, however, and began to move the ball inside toward the end of the half. A tip-in from Watkins highlighted a 7-0 run in the final three minutes and Penn State led 30-28 at halftime.

For the game, Georgia Tech was 7 of 16 from behind the arc, while Penn State was 4 of 15. However, the Nittany Lions made 42.6 percent of their shots overall, while the Yellow Jackets hit 36.4 percent.
