Guard Marcquise Reed scored 19 points to lead Clemson to a 74-64 victory against Georgia on Friday night in the season opener for both teams at Littlejohn Coliseum.

It was the first-game in the "new" Littlejohn Coliseum, which hosted its first men's game since undergoing a $63.5 million renovation project.

Reed, a redshirt sophomore playing in his first game at Clemson after transferring from Robert Morris, came off the bench to score nine points in the first 20 minutes as Clemson (1-0) built a 14-point lead before settling for a 10-point advantage at the half, 40-30.

Reed, a former Rookie of the Year in the Northeast Conference, connected on 5 of 11 shots from the floor, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range.

Georgia (0-1), which was playing at Clemson for the first time since the 2006-07 season, used an 18-11 run at the outset of the second half to cut the Tigers' lead to three, 51-48, with 10:38 remaining, but Reed scored seven straight points to help Clemson regain control.

The Bulldogs, who are bidding for a fourth consecutive 20-win season, never drew closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Jaron Blossomgame, a preseason first-team All-ACC pick, got into early foul trouble and finished with 13 points for Clemson, which was picked to finish 11th in the ACC preseason poll.

Junior guard Gabe DeVoe scored 15 points and senior guard Avry Holmes had 10. Senior center Sidy Djitte added eight points and nine rebounds.

Georgia was led by Yante Maten's 19 points. The 6-foot-8 junior forward also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who held a 40-34 rebounding edge. Senior guard J.J. Frazier added 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Clemson, seeking its first NCAA Tournament berth since coach Brad Brownell's first season in 2010-11, forced 14 Georgia turnovers, turning them in 16 points.
