Freshman forward Jaylen Brown posted his second double-double of the season to lead No. 14 Cal to an 89-63 victory over Sam Houston State on Monday night at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif.

Brown had 18 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for Cal (4-0). Junior guard Jordan Mathews also scored 18 points. Senior guard Tyrone Walker had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Junior guard Dakarai Henderson scored 13 points to lead Sam Houston State (1-3). Sophomore guard Jamal Williams had 12 points and freshman forward Jalin Barnes added 11.

Sam Houston State scored the first seven points to jump out to an early lead. Cal stormed back to take an 8-7 lead on a 3-pointer by Mathews.

The game remained close until the Bears mounted a 15-0 run to take a 38-30 lead on a jumper by freshman forward Ivan Rabb with 2:46 remaining in the first half.

Cal led 44-29 at the break and went up 52-32 early in the second half. The Bears extended their lead to 25 on a free throw by Mathews with 15:37 remaining and to 35 points late in the game.

Cal shot 51.7 percent from the field and held Sam Houston State to 37.1 percent.
