Guard Gary Payton II scored 21 points to lead Oregon State to a 71-59 victory over host UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.

Guard Stephen Thompson Jr. added 13 points off the bench for the Beavers, who advanced to 4-0 for just the second time since 2000. Guard Malcolm Duvivier scored 12 points and forward Drew Eubanks added 10 for Oregon State.

Forward Sam Beeler led Santa Barbara (1-2) with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Forward John Green finished with 16 points and guard Michael Bryson added 14 for the Gauchos, who were just 4 of 22 (18.2 percent) from 3-point range.

Oregon State led by eight at halftime and continued to pull away in the second half. A jumper by Payton gave the Beavers a 49-37 lead with 15:52 left. The Gauchos, however, went on an 8-2 run, and a tip-in by Beeler cut Oregon State's lead to 64-52 with 4:59 to play.

From there, though, Oregon State maintained possession, and a pair of free throws by forward Tres Tinkle boosted the lead back to 66-54. The Gauchos opted not to foul in the final two minutes, and Eubanks made them pay with a jumper with just under a minute remaining.
