Charles Cooke scored 21 points and Dayton put its game against Alabama away by halftime in a 80-48 victory on Tuesday in Dayton, Ohio.

The Flyers (2-0) ran their winning streak at Dayton Arena to 24 games, the ninth-longest active streak in the NCAA and six games from tying the school record set from 2008 to 2010.

Guard Scoochie Smith added 15 points, center Steve McElvene had 13 points and 11 rebounds and guard Darrell Davis scored 10 points for the Flyers.

Swingman Riley Norris had nine points for Alabama (1-1).

The second game in the coach Avery Johnson era didn't go as well for the Crimson Tide as their opening 77-64 win over Kennesaw State.

Alabama shot 29.8 percent from the floor (17 of 57) against the Flyers and committed 20 turnovers.

Alabama took an 18-16 lead on a Norris tip-in midway through the first half, but Dayton went on a tear from there, starting with a 10-point run to go ahead 26-18.

The Tide closed to 26-22, but a McElvene jumper led Dayton on a 14-2 spurt in the final five minutes to go into halftime with a 40-24 advantage.

Dayton finishes its three-game, season-opening homestand on Saturday against William & Mary. Alabama hosts Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday.
