Guard Justin Edwards had 19 points and Kansas State never trailed in an 81-71 victory over Columbia Monday night at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan.

Edwards scored nine of the first 11 points of the second half and assisted on the other bucket to help the Wildcats (2-0) extend a five-point halftime lead to 51-39.

All five Kansas State starters scored in double figures, including forward Dean Wade (17), forward Wesley Iwundu (16), guard Kamau Stokes (11) and forward Stephen Hurt (10).

The Lions (1-1) were led by forward Luke Petrasek with 19 off the bench. Forward Alex Rosenberg added 16, guard Maodo Lo had 12 and guard Grant Mullins 11.

The game was not decided until there were less than six minutes remaining. The Wildcats, who had seen a 12-point lead cut to 64-61 with three straight Columbia 3-pointers, answered with a 9-0 run of its own. The Lions missed 16 of their first 17 three-pointers before three straight makes.

The Wildcats led by as much as 13 on two occasions, the last at 33-20. Columbia rattled off nine straight points to cut it to four. Iwundu ended the run with a drive to the hoop and the Lions missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to leave the score 40-35 at halftime.
