Sophomore guard Dakota Mathias scored 17 points, and No. 23 Purdue made a single-game school-record 18 3-pointers during a 107-79 victory over Vermont on Sunday on Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind.

The former record of 16 made 3s occurred on Feb. 7, 1998, during a victory at Ohio State. Sophomore forward Vince Edwards made the record-setting 17th trey with 8:27 remaining, giving the Boilermakers a 91-74 lead.

Through two games, Purdue (2-0) has made 30 3-pointers.

Sophomore center Isaac Haas added 16 for Purdue (2-0), freshman forward Caleb Swanigan had 14 points and 13 rebounds, Edwards had 14 points, senior guard Rapheal Davis finished with 12 and junior guard Kendall Stephens added 11.

Guard Ernie Duncan led Vermont (0-2) with 18 points.

Purdue played again without leading returning scorer, 7-foot senior center A.J. Hammons, who has been benched by coach Matt Painter during each of the first two games. Hammons is not in trouble with law enforcement and is expected to return to action soon. Painter will not discuss the specifics of the early-season benching.

Without him, Purdue has scored 188 points in the season's first 80 minutes.
