The Cowboys built a 40-31 halftime lead, behind 14 first-half points from Forte, and pulled away in the second half. Forte hit 6 of 9 from the floor and 10 of 11 free throws.

Oklahoma State senior forward Chris Olivier came off the bench and had a big all-around game with 14 points, on 7-of-8 shooting, and five rebounds. He fueled the Cowboys' run early in the second half that pushed the lead to 17 with 9:31 to play.

Oklahoma State wore special teal blue uniforms with orange numbers to open the season and improved to 12-0 against current members of the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Cowboys went 18-14 last season, losing to Oregon in their first game of the NCAA tournament. Oklahoma State is picked to finish seventh in the Big 12 in the preseason media poll.

Junior guard Jacolby Mobley had 19 points for Tennessee-Martin, and senior forward Twymond Howard added 12 for the Skyhawks. Howard had eight points in the first half, helping Tennessee-Martin stay in the game early, before fading in the second half.

Second-year Tennessee-Martin coach Heath Schroyer returns eight players, including three starters from last year's 21-win squad.

It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
