Georgetown 78, No. 4 Villanova 58: Freshman Isaac Copeland tallied a season-high 17 points and six rebounds as the host Hoyas moved to the top of the Big East with a resounding victory over the Wildcats.

D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera also scored 17 points for Georgetown (13-5, 5-2 Big East), which held Villanova to 34.1 percent from the field and posted its first win in this series since Feb. 25, 2012. Jabril Trawick chipped in 10 points as the Hoyas rode 60 percent shooting in the first half to take a 22-point lead into the break.

Ryan Arcidiacono went 4-of-6 beyond the arc and finished with 16 points for the Wildcats (17-2, 4-2), who saw their four-game winning streak snapped. Josh Hart was the only other Villanova player to reach double figures, contributing 10.

Georgetown, which never trailed, did not allow a field goal for the first six minutes and held Villanova scoreless for more than seven minutes later in the first half after the Wildcats connected on three consecutive shots to end its early field-goal drought. The Hoyas held a two-point edge with just under 13 minutes left when Copeland scored eight points during a 17-0 run to give Georgetown a 30-11 advantage seven minutes later.

Trawick drilled two 3-pointers near the end of the half as the Hoyas took a 42-20 lead into intermission and hit a jumper early after the break as the margin grew to 26 on two occasions. Arcidiacono keyed a spirited rally with three triples and Villanova went 17-of-22 from the foul line in the second half to claw within 12 twice, but Copeland scored five points over a critical five-minute stretch to keep Georgetown comfortably in front.
