No. 7 Arizona 73, Arizona State 49: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson collected 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists as the host Wildcats routed the Sun Devils in the Pac-12 opener for both squads.

Stanley Johnson added 13 points and seven rebounds as Arizona (13-1) won its 30th consecutive home game. Brandon Ashley went 3-for-4 from 3-point range while also scoring 13 points.

Gerry Blakes scored nine points to lead Arizona State (8-6), which committed a season-worst 22 turnovers. Shaquielle McKissic and Roosevelt Scott each added eight points for the Sun Devils.

The Wildcats held a 56-31 advantage on a tip-in by Dusan Ristic with 13:45 remaining before Arizona State whittled away and pulled within 60-44 on a 3-pointer by Jonathan Gilling. But Arizona’s lead went back above 20 on a dunk by Ristic with 4:58 to play and the Wildcats cruised to the finish.

Arizona used an early 15-1 run to open a 21-8 lead on Johnson’s jumper with 12:35 left in the first half. Gabe York’s basket made it 33-15 with 6:04 to go and Hollis-Jefferson’s provided the Wildcats with a 45-25 halftime advantage.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Wildcats shot 51 percent while limiting Arizona State to 32.6. … Arizona recorded a 33-23 edge on the boards. … Ristic had nine points and five rebounds for the Wildcats.
