LSU 79, UAB 70: Jarell Martin scored 25 points to help the visiting Tigers blow by the Blazers in the second half.

Keith Hornsby added a season-high 24 points for LSU (8-2), which shot 7-for-14 from 3-point range. Jordan Mickey added 13 points, eight rebounds and matched his career high with seven blocks for the Tigers.

Robert Brown scored 20 points with the help of 4-for-11 from 3-point range for UAB (4-7). C.J. Washington added 14 points off the bench for the Blazers.

LSU trailed by six at the half but got even with six straight points and both teams traded baskets until the Tigers went on a 7-0 run to take a 56-49 lead with 12:34 remaining. UAB got within three with 6:46 left but that was as close as the Blazers would get as LSU followed with a 10-3 run to go up by double digits with 1:39 left.

The Tigers started slow and were looking at a 17-6 deficit five minutes into the game. The Blazers then went about 5½ minutes without a field goal and that allowed LSU to begin closing the gap.

GAME NOTEBOOK: LSU played without starting PG Josh Gray, who sprained his ankle in the previous game …. The Tigers came in shooting 31.1 percent from 3-point range before making half their attempts against the Blazers. …. LSU improved to 6-0 this season when leading with 10 minutes left and 38-3 in the last three seasons.
