Georgetown 68, St. John’s 56: Nate Lubick tallied a career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds as the host Hoyas stopped the Red Storm’s five-game winning streak and completed a regular-season sweep of their long-time conference rival for the second straight season.

Markel Starks shot 4-of-17 from the field but finished with 12 points – all on 3-pointers – and Jabril Trawick added 12 points for Georgetown (16-4, 6-3 Big East). The Hoyas beat St. John’s for the fifth straight time, all by double figures.

JaKarr Sampson led the Red Storm (14-8, 6-4) with 16 points. St. John’s most recent loss also came against the Hoyas in a 67-51 setback on Jan. 12.

The Red Storm took their final lead at 15-12 with 13 minutes left in the first half on a 3-pointer by Phil Greene IV. Otto Porter Jr. answered with seven consecutive points during a 12-0 Georgetown run and five straight points by Lubick later in the half increased the margin to 39-24.

While Porter sat for much of the second half due to foul trouble, Georgetown did not allow St. John’s to get any closer than eight points the rest of the way behind the 3-point shooting of Starks and Trawick.

GAME NOTEBOOK: St. John’s G Jamal Branch suffered a sprained left knee on an odd play with 17:08 remaining. In the process of chasing down a rebound, Red Storm G D’Angelo Harrison injured his right wrist while pushing Lubick out of bounds. Lubick fell into Branch, who got his left leg trapped under the Hoyas’ forward. Branch had to be carried off the court by teammates and had ice on his knee thereafter. Harrison did not miss any time. … Georgetown did not attempt a free throw until Trawick hit two with 1:46 remaining, but the Hoyas finished 5-of-7 from the foul line. … Harrison – the Big East’s second-leading scorer at 19.7 points per game – was held to a career-low two and missed all nine of his field goal attempts.
