Terone Johnson had 17 points and 12 rebounds, both team highs, to lead the host Boilermakers past the Hawkeyes in a game that featured a lackluster first half but exciting finish.

Ronnie Johnson, Terone’s brother, scored 15 points to help Purdue (11-9, 4-3 Big Ten) win for the fourth time in five games and improve to 9-3 at home. Donnie Hale came off the bench and scored 12 points, D.J. Byrd added 10 and A.J. Hammons grabbed 10 rebounds for the Boilermakers.

Mike Gesell scored a team-high 18 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead Iowa (13-7, 2-5), which lost for the fifth time in seven games and dropped to 1-4 on the road. Roy Devyn Marble and Aaron White scored 12 points apiece, and Melsahn Basabe came off the bench and had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Purdue led 19-16 at halftime, the fewest points either team has scored in a first half this season. Iowa shot 15.4 percent from the field in the first half, while Purdue shot 29 percent. The Boilermakers shot 39.1 percent in the game, while the Hawkeyes shot 31.1.

Purdue is 86-71 in the series and has won 11 of the last 12 meetings.
