Trey Zeigler and Durand Johnson scored 13 points apiece off the bench as the visiting Panthers scored the final 15 points.

Tray Woodall started despite suffering a concussion Saturday and contributed five rebounds and five assists for Pittsburgh (14-4, 2-3 Big East), which bounced back from an overtime loss to Marquette.

Darrun Hilliard scored all 14 of his points in the first half and was the only player to reach double figures for Villanova (11-6, 2-2), which shot 31.8 percent from the floor.

The Wildcats used a 6-0 burst early in the second half to pull to their largest lead at 32-25 with 15:57 to play. Villanova scored only two points in the next 7 1/2 minutes as the Panthers used a 14-2 burst to jump on top.

James Bell’s steal and transition dunk brought the Wildcats back even at 43 with 5:14 to play before Pittsburgh took off again. Zeigler assisted on Steven Adams’ go-ahead dunk and scored four straight points of his own as the Panthers began the run that would close out the contest.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Pittsburgh has taken five straight in the series, which will end when the Panthers leave for the ACC next season. … Villanova shot 30.4 percent in the first half but managed to take a 23-22 lead into the locker room as the Panthers struggled to 30.8 percent from the floor. … Hilliard appeared to suffer a jammed thumb early in the second half and had his hand wrapped before re-entering the game.
