The Big Ten’s leading scorer Deshaun Thomas recorded 22 points and seven rebounds as the visiting Buckeyes held off every challenge from the Boilermakers.

Aaron Craft chipped in with 15 points - 13 in the second half - for Ohio State (12-3, 2-1 Big Ten), which beat Purdue for the fourth time in the last five meetings. Evan Ravenel added 13 points for the Buckeyes, who shot 56.4 percent from the field.

Terone Johnson scored 18 points to lead the way for Purdue (7-8, 1-2), which had 44 points in the paint and just six turnovers. A.J. Hammons added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Ronnie Johnson had 11 points for the Boilermakers, who shot 38.8 percent from the field.

Purdue was within 22-17 midway the first half before Ohio State ran off nine straight points. Thomas scored 14 points and the Buckeyes got 17 from their bench to take a 39-29 lead at intermission.

The Boilermakers hung around during the second half and pulled within 70-64 with 2:59 remaining. Ohio State made a stop and then got a big basket from Sam Thompson (eight points) to seal it, while Purdue missed its final six shots from the field.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Lenzelle Smith Jr. had just two points on 1-of-6 shooting from the field, but grabbed 10 rebounds for Ohio State. … Purdue dropped to 6-3 at home. … Ohio State had nine blocks, led by Ravenel’s three.
