DePaul 83, Providence 73: Cleveland Melvin rebounded from two rough games to score 23 points as the visiting Blue Demons handed the Friars their fourth straight defeat.

Melvin was 10-of-18 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds for DePaul (10-5, 1-1 Big East). Jamee Crockett and Brandon Young each added 15 points for the Blue Demons, who forced 23 turnovers.

Bryce Cotton had 15 of his 20 points in the second half, while Kadeem Batts added 17 points and Vincent Council 16 for Providence (8-6, 0-2), which lost for the first time in eight home games. LaDontae Henton, who averages 16.5 points, had just six for the Friars.

Melvin registered 13 points in the first half and the Blue Demons scored 10 of the final 12 en route to a 37-30 lead at intermission. The Friars missed all six of their 3-point attempts and turned the ball over nine times in the opening 20 minutes.

Crockett scored the first two baskets of the second half to start an 11-4 run for DePaul. The Blue Demons pushed their lead as high as 22 with just under 10 minutes remaining before Providence whittled it down to eight with just under two minutes left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: It was DePaul’s third win at Providence in 15 tries. The Friars still lead the series 22-8. … Arizona transfer Sidiki Johnson had career bests of nine points and 12 rebounds in his fifth game for the Friars. … Moses Morgan added 10 points for DePaul, which was 24-of-29 at the free throw line.
